Richard D. Sopp, Partner

Richard D. Sopp grew up in Turlock in California’s Central Valley. He attended Brigham Young University receiving a B.S. degree in Communications in 1982 and his J.D. degree in 1986. In law school he was the Stewart Grow Scholar and a member of the Inns of Court. In 1986 Richard went to work doing civil litigation for the Sacramento firm of Wohl, Cinnamon and Hagedorn.

From 1988 to 1992, Richard was General Counsel to Harris Research, Inc., the franchisor for the Chem-Dry carpet cleaning system, where he gained substantial experience in the area of franchise law. In 1992, he joined Bob Wheatley in the firm of Laurie, Maloney & Wheatley. Since that time, Richard has practiced in the areas of franchising, civil litigation, business formations, business law and probate, wills and trust preparation.

Richard lives in El Dorado Hills with his wife and four children. He enjoys hiking and going to sporting events, especially football and baseball. He has served on the site council of local schools, as a volunteer coach for many youth sports teams, and in several positions at his church.
